The J.L. Sorenson Recreation Center is a flagship, state-of-the-art, 110,000 sq. ft. facility in Herriman, Utah, located in Southwest Salt Lake County. The recreation center’s major spaces include two (2) pools, a double gymnasium, large fitness area, aerobic studio, spinning room, running track, daycare center, administration, multi-use rooms, six (6) racquetball courts and a public plaza. This project is LEED Gold Certified.

VBFA provided the complicated mechanical systems designs that provide comfort and increased aesthetics for patrons. Natatorium condensation control was addressed using fabric ducts at glazing well above floor level and special supply grilles. Because of the dry climate, this project is designed without the need for mechanical air conditioning in the pool enclosure, as all cooling and dehumidification can be provided with outside air.
